Benefits of Yoga

What are the health benefits of yoga? Yoga has a myriad of health benefits...
  1. Stress reduction. A number of studies have shown that yoga can help reduce stress and anxiety. It can also enhance your mood and overall sense of well-being.
    • Breathing deeply keeps the mind focused, cleans out the lungs, and increases circulation, which oxygenates your entire system
  2. Improved fitness. Practicing yoga can lead to improved balance, flexibility, range of motion and strength. 
    • Stretching increases flexibility, which can prevent injuries. 
    • Strength and muscle tone are the result of supporting your body weight in various poses. 
    • Mental endurance and physical stamina are tested through holding postures for extended breaths.
    • Arm and shoulder strength is multiplied as you use your own body weight for resistance.
    • Lats and other back muscles begin to support the spine better than before.
    • Abdominals and obliques are refined and sharpened through building core muscles.
    • Poor and average posture begins to correct itself over time.
    • Hip flexors are stretched and rebuilt.
    • Glutes, quads, hamstrings, and calves are tightened and lengthened where they need to be.
  3. Management of chronic conditions. Yoga can help reduce risk factors for chronic diseases, such as heart disease and high blood pressure. Yoga might also help alleviate chronic conditions, such as depression, pain, anxiety and insomnia.
